Sustainable fabrics - HEMP

Hemp is one of the most ecological fibres in the world. Thanks to its hollow fibre, it remains cool in summer, warm in winter and is very breathable. The hemp fibre suitable for use in textiles is obtained by mechanically working the fibrous part outside the stem of the plant.

The growth of hemp is rapid and does not require special attention, it grows quickly and even more than weeds.

It is sown in spring and harvested at the end of summer at the maximum of its maturity. Once the hemp has been cut and harvested, we proceed with the different processing phases.

Structurally, the hemp fibre is hollow and hygroscopic, a perfect combination from which you get a yarn with high heat-insulating and breathable capacity together, which behaves like wool: cool in summer and warm in winter. Among the natural fibres most resistant to textile processing, hemp therefore allows you to create a fabric that is more resistant to mechanical action, wear, tears and deformations than any other natural fabric.

The fabrics obtained from the hemp plant are also equipped with other very interesting properties: they reflect ultraviolet rays, they shield from electrostatic fields, they do not conduct electricity, they do not irritate the skin because they are hypoallergenic and keep bacteria away from the surface of our body because they are antiseptic, antifungal and the tensile strength of hemp fabrics is 8 times greater than that of cotton fibre.

Hemp plantations do not require aggressive treatment with pesticides, herbicides or other chemicals. The plant can grow up to 4 metres, has robust roots that induce oxygenation of the soil and is able to clean up polluted soils and enrich them (increasing their productivity) thanks to a strong nitrogen intake. Hemp is also one of the most efficient plants in converting carbon dioxide into oxygen.

In recent months, our company has created 100% hemp fabrics, or combining GOTS cotton yarn, all to create a fabric that is as sustainable as possible.
